A time clock is also known as a clock card machine or a punch clock or a time recorder and is a clock used to track the time an employee works in a company. The first time clock ever was invented by a jeweler. Willard Bundy from Auburn, New York invented this in 1888 and he associated with his brother Harlow. Together, the Bundy brothers founded the Bundy Manufacturing Company that produced time clocks. That was the moment when the history of time clock began to be written. Nowadays, time clocks are computer based and the employer can obtain reports through the system of time clocks and the employee can see records of its works. The best option to use in present is the biometric time clock.

A biometric time clock features a much more advanced system of management of time and attendance. Different than the other systems used in present, a biometric time clock will not use a key, a password, a code or a chip to identify the employee, but a unique feature of the user. A biometric time clock will request the use of a print, either a hand print, a finger print, a vein – like a finger or a palm vein. Another method used by the biometric time clock is to scan the iris or the retina of the user. The biometric time clock controls the entrance of the user in the building, the time it spent in the building and the date when this happened. Also, thanks to the biometric time clock, an employee can be granted or denied access to several parts of the building, that may be private.

Thanks to the biometric time clock, there is a better control because sometimes employees want to check in, to leave and than to come back later just to check out. With the system used by a biometric time clock fraud is prevented and it cannot happen. A biometric time clock is a great invention and is useful in any business. Not only for control, but also for the reporting part which would involve a large amount of work without the help of this device.
